Love Like We Used To I don't love like I used to Lord I still try Gonna have to live with myself Til the day that I die How long we're given no man can say So tell your friends you love them each and every day No one looks back and remembers Nights they had plenty of sleep But in your heart comes that feeling That your feet just gotta creep Rest your eyes only when you Put everything into your sound Give thanks for the things that you Won't have to take with you into the ground Walking into that clearing From the darkest darkest woods I feel the sunlight on my face Makes me feel oh so good We don't love like we used to Lord we better try We're gonna have to live with ourselves Til the day that we die

Easy Target You come preaching around Don’t believe, don’t believe in my sound I got some problems, it’s true Need somebody as bad as you There’s no turning back now Need someone to look out For the ghosts, and the sharks swimming in my head The way they talk makes me wish I were dead I got nothing to hide A burning love, burning up inside Help me let out the flames Got love for you, won’t you show me the same I’m a smoking gun I’m a trigger worn smooth I’m an easy target, refusing to move We got nothing to hide A burning love, burning up inside Help us let out the flames Got love for you, won’t you show us the same I’m a smoking gun I’m a trigger worn smooth I’m an easy target, refusing to move

about

The idea for The HA EP was to take the songs that best represented our live shows over the past few years; get the friends and players that had made up the “band”, or, more fittingly “The Human Assembly” into a room and track them live as we sounded on stage. I wanted to create a snapshot of our sound; the original songs I’d been playing up and down the west coast with different players from Tofino, British Columbia to San Diego, California. These five songs are simple from a musical standpoint and part of that was the point: keep them easy enough for a rotating cast of players to jump in and play comfortably; whether they’d played with the band once or a hundred times. The vision and the vibe was to create a human experience for both the musicians onstage and the people in the audience. A connection through sound and words, sweat and adrenaline, catharsis and elation. The act of performance: the artist as both the priest and the sacrifice. It wasn’t unheard of to see friends letting loose and being carried out of the venues after the shows. And for a band that prided itself on playing “music to party to”, some of the regular players--my bandmates and closest friends weren’t immune to the pitfalls of the ongoing party and the toll of sacrificing oneself to the pantheon of live music gods. Were we a huge band? No. We clawed for every inch. The unspoken rule of the indie band is to be miserable and love it. But, we went from playing cafes to headlining our favorite venues like The Independent and Belly Up Tavern, grinding it out along the way and getting better and better at curating a good time.

This EP is made up of new recordings from a time when live shows were allowed. So, in a way, it's a time capsule from the past.

From the bottom of my heart, thanks for listening and being part of The Human Assembly.
